Amazing amazing.

Some more inspirational videos

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I really like what we discussed on Tuesday about b&w footage- they’re really able to give an uncanny and dreamlike effect.

I’m just posting up some of the videos Donnie talked about and also some of my own faves:

Twilight Zone intro:

The Outer Limits intro:

And then some later (but pretty seminal pieces of digital animation/video art/computer graphics)-

John Whitney-Matrix III (1972)

This one’s amazing!!

Although now, with more advanced technologies, we can’t really recreate things in the same way… it’s interesting to think about it, how hard getting something to look a certain way was before programs like Modul8. I think it’s something we should consider and try out if we can… to be analog.

Not seminal, but awesome:

Let’s aspire

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I’m a huge fan of this chick (Blackmoth). She’s kind of like a semi well known net-artist. But she does shows a lot and has residencies in diff clubs. Her shit’s really awesome, it’s like net art directly transposed to video, like random weird geocities sites in 3D. Like a fucked up scifi dreamscape. I think in order to make the Pershing event successful, as in really effectively altering the mood of our audience and tripping them out, we need to really step up our footage, and not only that, try things we’ve never done before while shooting, compositing, editing, whatever. I’m so excited!!

Some more screen ideas

exhibition view ‘urban realities:focus istanbul’ martin gropius bau, berlin

As quoted:
“an architectural device constructed in steel and semitransparent yellow corrugated plastic, which originally is used for sun-/ rain roofs.
film sequences of roofs alike coloured in red, yellow and blue are being projected onto the structure, therefore messing up the colouring
which shines through the construction onto the wall.”

Inflatable Screens

I mentioned this at the meeting, we can shoot the projectors through a semi-opaque plastic sheet structure. It would require some logical placement and such.

See the entire project here.

Not related to cardboard boxes

Inflatabill. Pretty theatrical set ups.

Initial Reference — Cardboard

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Cardboard is a generic term for a heavy duty paper based product sometimes made by pasting together two or more layers of paper. It is used to make playing cards, signs, boxes and other things. Synonyms include paperboard and pasteboard. This is a potential foundation for our Pershing Square project.2525608151_8e7679661d (more…)
